Group Swim Lessons for Children

Lessons are 30 minutes long and each session runs Monday through Thursday for two weeks. Morning lessons are held at Trout Creek Recreation Center and evening lessons are held at Northwoods Pool. To provide consistent, quality swim lessons, participants are required to attend the first lesson of any session for which they are enrolled. All participants must be registered at least one week prior to class start date. A minimum enrollment of 3 participants per session is required. Classes may be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment.

Registration: For summer 2013, online registration starts at 8 a.m. March 11 (for Tahoe Donner members) or 8 a.m. March 25 (guests). Go to our registration page at ShopTD to sign up.

Guppies: Parent/Tot – Buy Now

Children ages 6 months to 3 years will spend time with a trained instructor. Adults will be taught to help children learn water adjustment, use of supported floats, kicks, and assisted entries through instruction, songs and games. This is a water exploration experience for both parent and child.

Level 1 – Bubble Blowers – Buy Now

Children ages 2½ and older can adjust to the water and a swim lesson setting. Instructors focus on introducing the following skills: water entries and exits, bubble blowing, underwater exploration, kicking, arm movements, body position, and supported locomotion.

Level 2 – Starfish – Buy Now

Prerequisite: Level 1. Instructors will build on prior water abilities focusing on the following basic skills: floating, gliding, retrieving underwater objects, and unsupported swimming on front and back.

Level 3 – Duckies – Buy Now

Prerequisite: Level 2. Students at this level will learn the front crawl and elementary backstroke. Instructors will introduce treading water, rhythmic breathing, and promote water safety. Most skills will be performed independently.

Level 4 – Seals – Buy Now

Prerequisite: Level 3. Students will work on their endurance during the front and back crawl strokes. They will be introduced to breaststroke, new ways of treading water, diving, and rotary breathing.

Level 5 – Dolphins – Buy Now

Prerequisite: Level 4. Students will work on improving existing skills while increasing endurance. They will be introduced to the butterfly, competitive dives, and open turns.
