Horsemanship Camp Registration is now open for members

UPDATE 3/2/17: Horsemanship Camp LEVEL II is completely sold out for all summer sessions. To get on the wait list for potential openings, please email equestrian manager Krystal-Rae Mecham at kmecham@tahoedonner.com. LEVEL I is still currently open.

Our equestrian day camps are for ages 8 to 14. These are half-day, week-long riding camps for groups of four students with one instructor and one camp assistant.

Each student has his or her own horse for the week. Students will learn the fundamentals of horsemanship, safety and riding skills. Grooming, tacking, arena work, trail riding, bathing and a horse show on Friday are all part of the curriculum. If we experience summer thunderstorms and are unable to ride, students will have lessons in horse and tack care, horseshoeing, veterinary care and other horsemanship knowledge.

Level 1

This camp is for beginners with little or no riding experience. Students will learn the basics of handling, grooming, tacking up and riding at the walk and trot. Students may repeat level 1 (or take additional private lessons) until they are ready for level 2. Morning and afternoon sessions are offered each week. Morning session 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. or afternoon 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Level 2 – SOLD OUT

This camp is a continuation of level 1 and is intended for beginner riders with some experience and confidence under their belts. To qualify for this level, students should be able to fully control their horse at the walk and be comfortable at the trot. When students are fully in control at the trot they will begin learning how to lope/canter. This camp is the most popular and covers the widest range of riding abilities. Students generally take level two multiple times; in each session their instruction will be suited to their ability and confidence levels. Morning sessions are offered each week 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Cancellation Policy: All cancellations and/or changes must be made 14 days prior to the first day of the session for which you are registered and a processing fee of $15 will be charged for any changes. No refunds will be given for cancellations and/or changes made less than 14-days prior to the first day of the session for which you are registered.
