Town of Truckee Yard Waste Program
The Town of Truckee Yard Waste Collection Program has three options for 2016 and is effective year-round.
To participate, purchase green bags from a local retailer or member services and fill them with vegetative yard waste. Tie the bags securely and place them on the curbside for collection, Duct tape works well to seal bags. Bags must be 4 millimeters thick. Please limit each bag to a maximum weight of 40 pounds. Bags must be free of holes.
Tahoe Truckee Sierra Disposal Company will pick up four bags a week on Tuesdays. You may place more than four bags outside. If you place more than four bags out per week, Tahoe Truckee Sierra Disposal Company will only pick up four per week but will remove them all at once if you call them and pay an additional fee.
Accepted Items include:
- Pine needles
- Pine cones
- Lawn trimmings
- Garden waste
- Small twigs and branches
- Wood chips and bark
- Large limbs or branches
- Food waste
- Pet waste
- Rocks and dirt
Green Bags are available at Mountain Hardware, Tahoe Supply Company and at the Member Services Office.
Yard Waste Dumpster
For the months of May, June, July and August, Truckee residents may purchase up to two 6-yard capacity, yard waste only dumpsters for $60 each (new lower price). Dumpsters are intended to be loaded with loose yard waste material, which means NO BAGS! This is a great time saving option. Dumpsters also accommodate larger woody materials such as limbs and branches in addition to pine needles, pine cones, brush and garden waste. Call Tahoe Truckee Sierra Disposal at 530-583-7800 for additional details and to reserve your dumpster today.
If you have the means to self-haul your yard waste material to the Eastern Regional Landfill (ERL), Truckee residents will be allowed to drop-off up to six yards of yard waste for free between May 1 and October 31, 2016. Again, bags are not required. Residents will need to unload their material themselves once at ERL. To make unloading easy, lay a tarp on the bottom of the truck bed or trailer and load the material on top. Don’t forget, the CA Vehicle Code requires the load be covered when driving to the landfill to prevent fly-a-ways. In order to take advantage of the free drop-off, Truckee residents are required to bring proof of residency (something with a Truckee address – utility bill, drivers license, etc.). ERL is located just thee miles past the mouse-hole on Hwy 89 and up Cabin Creek Road. Free drop-off is available May 1 – October 31, Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
