Will any of my HOA assessment go to the Tahoe Donner Giving Fund (Tahoe Donner Giving Fund)?
No portion of the annual HOA assessment or fees goes toward the Tahoe Donner Giving Fund. Any use of HOA facilities will be reimbursed to the association. The Tahoe Donner Giving Fund is an entirely voluntary entity that relies on the generosity of residents and businesses that recognize the importance of giving back to the community in which we reside, whether full- or part-time.
Is contributing to the Tahoe Donner Giving Fund a homeowner requirement?
Absolutely not. All contributions to the Tahoe Donner Giving Fund are purely voluntary donations given from-the-heart to support the needs of the greater community in which we live and play.
What is the Tahoe Donner Giving Fund?
The Tahoe Donner Giving Fund is an organized way for residents of Tahoe Donner to participate in the wider community to be good citizens and care for the common good of the local community.
How do I make a contribution?
You may write a check (made out to Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation with a memo that it is for the Tahoe Donner Giving Fund) or contribute using a credit card online at www.ttcf.net. You may also contribute by participating in our Tahoe Donner Giving Fund fundraisers. Gifts by credit card show up on your statement as “Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation.” Use this link to contribute now. You will receive a tax receipt from the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation. For contributions in other forms please contact us via email (email@example.com).
Is my contribution tax deductible?
Yes, your contribution is fully tax deductible. The Tahoe Donner Giving Fund is operating under the umbrella of the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation, which offers maximum tax advantages under state and federal law. You will receive a tax receipt for your contribution.
Can I make a contribution “in memory of” or “in honor of” someone?
Yes. A contribution to the Tahoe Donner Giving Fund would be a wonderful way to honor or remember a loved one. Click here, then provide the Memory or Honor information.
May I designate a specific organization as the recipient of my contribution?
Yes. Designated contributions may be routed through the TD Giving Fund directly to the organization of your choice.
Who can contribute? Do I have to live in Tahoe Donner to contribute? Do I have to be a property owner to contribute?
We welcome all contributions. We see the Tahoe Donner Giving Fund as an excellent way for second homeowners or extended family members to support the greater Truckee community that we all love. Any individual or corporate entity may contribute to the Tahoe Donner Giving Fund whether one is a property owner and/or lives in Tahoe Donner or not.
Will the Tahoe Donner Giving Fund accept matching contributions from my employer?
Yes, matching funds are encouraged and accepted. Just follow your employer’s established process.
Is the Tahoe Donner Giving Fund associated with a larger philanthropic organization?
The Tahoe Donner Giving Fund is part of a larger organization, the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation. The Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation has been in existence 15 years during which time it has funded over $20 million, and has $24 million in assets. They have the experience, the know-how, the contacts, and the state/federal tax-exempt status.
Why did the Tahoe Donner Giving Fund align itself with the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation?
The Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation has a fifteen-year track record of connecting people and opportunities. They have the knowledge and experience. They are an IRC 170 (b)(1)(A)(vi) public charity exempt from taxation by IRC Section 501(c)(3). We assume this status by being under their umbrella. They manage the funds as well as handle all the bookkeeping, mailing, reports, acknowledgments, fund distribution, insurance, and tax filings. They make sure that everything we do is in compliance with 501(c)(3) rules.
What does the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation charge for its services?
The Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation charges an annual fee of 2%, based on the balance of our funds. We believe our return on investment will more than cover this fee.
Why are we willing to pay a percentage of what we raise to the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation?
We consider the 2% annual fee well worth paying. We benefit from their tax status, experience, and services (fiscal management, insurance, mailings, tax filings, and the like). Also see, “Is the Tahoe Donner Giving Fund associated with a larger philanthropic organization?” above.
Why does Tahoe Donner have a giving fund separate from the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation?
We hope to bring an awareness of the needs of the community-at-large and engage our property owners for the common good. We wish to establish a channel through which Tahoe Donner property owners can identify with the larger community. The Tahoe Donner property owner focus provides a more intimate way of giving back by meeting the needs of the larger community.
If I already contribute to the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation, why would I want to contribute to the Tahoe Donner Giving Fund?
By channeling giving to the large community through the Tahoe Donner Giving Fund you are showing Tahoe Donner property owners are responsible citizens who care about the larger community. Pooling our resources (contributions) allow us to present ourselves as a larger presence in the community.
How does the Tahoe Donner Giving Fund raise money?
Acquiring funds for the Tahoe Donner Giving Fund happens through direct contributions to the fund and through fundraising/special events.
How are the needs in the community determined?
The Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation, with its vast experience, identifies the needs of the community through calls for and vetting of grant proposals. The Tahoe Donner Giving Fund Operations and Grant Committee along with the Tahoe Donner board of directors will determine which proposals the Tahoe Donner Giving Fund will support.
What types of organizations receive grants? Is there a specific need focus? May I designate the recipient of my contribution?
Organizations that fall within one of the four categories of focus are eligible to apply for and receive grants. The four categories are: arts and culture, conservation and animal welfare, education and youth development, and health and human services, environment. The Tahoe Donner Giving Fund may establish an annual focus for grants depending on community needs. Individual contributions are pooled in order to have the most impact.
Are the grant recipients within the local community?
Grant applicants/recipients are within the local Truckee/North Tahoe area.
What size are the grants?
Tahoe Donner Giving Fund grants will depend on the money raised each year. It is our intention to return contributions to the community as soon as possible each year to do the most good. Most likely, we will make grants of $5,000 and up.
How does Tahoe Donner Giving Fund pay for operating costs?
Thus far, all of the Tahoe Donner Giving Fund operating costs have been covered by the generous support of our founding partner, WALTMAN CONSTRUCTION.
Does Tahoe Donner Giving Fund use Tahoe Donner staff support?
The Tahoe Donner Giving Fund committee is chartered by the Tahoe Donner board. The board is responsible for all Tahoe Donner Giving Fund actions, which are carried out at the board’s direction. Committees use staff support, and the Tahoe Donner Giving Fund is treated the same as the other chartered committees. Other chartered committees are the Covenants Committee, the Architectural Standards Committee, the Finance Committee, the General Plan Committee and the Elections Committee.
What is the difference between the Tahoe Donner Giving Fund and Give Back Tahoe?
The Tahoe Donner Giving Fund is a charitable fund set up at the direction of the Tahoe Donner board of directors, under the auspices of the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation, to raise money in the name of Tahoe Donner members to be given to local charities at the discretion of the Tahoe Donner board of directors. Give Back Tahoe is sponsored by the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation and is a centralized website which lists local 501(c)(3) charities, and provides information on them as well as the ability to make instant donations to them. Give Back Tahoe has no relationship to the Tahoe Donner Giving Fund.
