Wild fires are a serious concern in this area, and we need your help to ensure that they don’t happen. Here are a few important guidelines:
• Fire-safe metal containers with lids such as buckets or refuse containers must be used for fireplace ashes and used charcoal briquettes. The ashes can take up to five days to cool and must not be disposed of until then.
• Cold ashes should be disposed of only by spreading on bare dirt or bagging it and putting it in your trash. These ashes must never be spread in Common Areas or neighboring properties.
• Campfires, bonfires, or fireworks of any kind are not allowed on private lots, common areas, or other association-owned properties at any time.
• The burning of yard debris is allowed, only after obtaining a permit from the Truckee Fire District, on permissive burn days as determined by the Fire District, from late fall (depending on weather conditions) until no later than December 31.
• Commercially manufactured gas and charcoal barbecues, smokers, and commercially manufactured fire burning devices (such as outdoor fireplaces and chimineas) equipped with screening and/or spark arrestors with a maximum screen opening of 1/8th inch to prevent the escape of sparks and coals, are allowed on private property lots only. They must be operated in compliance with the safety and building codes of the Town of Truckee and the Truckee Fire District, and according to manufacturer's instructions.
The emergency number to call to report a fire is 911. The number to reach Tahoe Donner Security is 587-9495. Please remember that anyone causing a fire bears the moral and financial responsibility for the total cost of extinguishing the fire and may also be liable if the resulting fire damages anyone’s home.
