National Trails Day This Saturday

National Trails Day this Saturday- Fun Family Event for all Ages

Join the trails department and the Friends of Tahoe Donner Trails Club for a hiking tour of the McGlashan Springs and Bucknam Tract properties. This tour, of some of the most beautiful and historical areas in Tahoe Donner, will begin at 10 a.m. this Sat. (June 1) at the Bermgarten cul-de-sac just off Skislope Way. A map is available here.

The main hike will follow the jogging-stroller friendly dirt road. There will be frequent stops to look at the area’s hidden and lesser known gems, and to discuss the plans for developing trails in those areas, including the Donner Lake Rim Trail.

At the end of the dirt road, the hike will split into two groups. All those wishing to remain on the main road will head back to Bermgarten with Annie Rosenfeld, director of facilities and risk management, and all those wishing to go further will continue on an extended tour with Benjamin Levine from the Friends of Tahoe Donner Trails club. The extended tour will include some off-trail hiking, but most of it will be on rough bootleg trails.

The first portion of the extended hike will cross over onto the Bucknam Tract on a course that approximates one possible route for the Donner Lake Rim Trail. From there the hike will continue to a spectacular Donner Lake overlook via another bootleg trail across Forest Service land. Finally the hike will conclude by going off-trail again to see the McGlashan Springs themselves.

Approximate distance for Annie’s hike is 1.5 miles, while Benjamin’s extended hike is about 3.5 miles. Dogs on leash are welcome on both hikes.

For more information please contact the Friends of Tahoe Donner Trails Club at tdtrails@gmail.com.

2013 Tahoe Donner Board of Directors Election

As a member of Tahoe Donner, you should have received election materials for this year’s board of directors election (mailed May 21). Two three-year terms are being filled, with three property owners running for the positions:

The purpose of the candidate statements is to give voting members some insight into the perspectives of the individual candidates. (Note: Statements are posted exactly as received. No review for accuracy nor editing of content in any way is performed by the association, and the association is not liable for their content.)

In addition, there will be an opportunity on Saturday, June 8, at Northwoods Clubhouse from 7 – 9 p.m. to listen to each candidate as they present their views and positions for the future of Tahoe Donner.

We also have a page on our website for letters to the editor where you may submit or review candidate endorsements.

When you receive the election materials, please read them carefully. Our director election materials require specific and detailed procedures. If the steps are not followed exactly, according to California law, the ballot is disqualified. If you find something in the election materials to be confusing, or you have questions, please let us know—we’re here to help. Bonnie Watkins at (530) 587-9431 or bwatkins@tahoedonner.com is happy to answer any questions you may have.
