2013 USSA SuperTour Finals April 4-11
This April 4 through 11, Far West Nordic plays host to the USSA (United States Ski & Snowboard Association) SuperTour Finals and the 30/50 km National Championship. The SuperTour finals and distance national championships are the premier cross country ski races in the US, held annually in the spring so that the top American and Canadian skiers can return from the FIS (International Ski Federation) World Cup to compete with 200+ of our nation’s best domestic cross-county skiers. In conjunction with local ski areas Tahoe Donner, Auburn Ski Club, and Sugar Bowl/Royal Gorge, Far West Nordic is organizing the race series, which caps off the U.S. domestic racing circuit.
The SuperTour is a season-long event that takes place across America, and culminates with this four race “mini-tour” in early April. The leaders of the SuperTour earn FIS World Cup start rights. The times from all four races are combined, with sprint and climbing preems similar to stage racing in cycling, to determine the yellow bib (overall winner), the green bib (best sprinter), white bib (best under-19), and the polka-dot bib (best climber). Following the SuperTour finals are the US National Championship 30/50km races.

This event will bring in the best domestic racers and U.S. National Team members. Elite teams from around the country will travel to the Truckee-Tahoe region for the chance to compete at this event. The races fall into the Olympic Qualification period for next winter’s Olympic games in Russia, so competition will be fierce.
It is an event that will showcase the area and will be very spectator-friendly. Local areas Tahoe Donner, Sugar Bowl, and Auburn Ski Club will be hosting the races, as well generously providing financial support. The races will highlight the world-class cross-country skiing the Truckee-Tahoe region offer. In addition, they will attract media attention from around the nation as skiers contend for Olympic and National Team spots. Such a prestigious event requires hundreds of volunteers and the support of an entire region. Volunteers receive official event swag, and the opportunity to see the event up close and personal! If interested, contact our coordinator directly at volunteersupertour@gmail.com.
The participating resorts Tahoe Donner Cross Country, Sugar Bowl/Royal Gorge, and Auburn Ski Club along with Silver Sage Sports Performance and the National Nordic Foundation are already supporting this event as premier sponsors. Major sponsors include Tahoe Forest Hospital Health and Sports Performance Center, Wild Cherries, Clif Bar, the Resort at Squaw Creek, the Cedar House, and the Truckee Donner Chamber of Commerce.
Without sponsors, the SuperTour event would not happen, and we are still actively seeking sponsors to help offset operational costs. This high-profile elite competition series will put Tahoe-Truckee businesses and the community directly in the eyes of winter sport enthusiasts, with media coverage regionally, nationally, and internationally. Those interested in sponsorship opportunities can visit http://supertourfinals-tahoe2013.com/sponsors or call the Far West Nordic Ski Education Foundation at (530) 852-0879.
