Truckee PRIDE Week is bringing the popular film screening back this year, featuring two short films about remarkable women who have made an incredible impact on the skate and surf worlds. Each is a short film which will be followed by a discussion with the filmmaker Beth O'Rourke. We'll have music and mingling before and after the show.

Waves of Disruption: The Cori Schumacher Story
Official Selection Hawaii International Film Festival
A short documentary film about three-time Women’s World Longboard champion, politician, activist, writer and speaker Cori Schumacher, the first openly gay world surfing champion. As the first LGBTQI council member elected in Carlsbad, California, Cori used their platform to advance justice and belonging for women, BIPOC and LGBTQI people in surfing.

Timeless Areas: The Story of Elissa Steamer
Official Selection Florida Surf Film Festival
A short documentary film about Elissa Steamer, an American professional street skater who is the first woman to attain professional status in the history of skateboarding. Elissa Steamer broke ground for women in skateboarding with her aggressive street-skating style and a professional career that blew the doors open for the next generation.

ABOUT THE FILMMAKER: BETH O’ROURKE

Beth O'Rourke is a documentary filmmaker, photographer and lifelong competitive athlete. Her work has been featured in Surfer's Journal, The Inertia, and film festivals worldwide. Co-creator Jeff den Broeder is an Emmy-nominated filmmaker.
