Proper Attire

All visitors should wear long pants and close-toed shoes. We do not permit sandals, Tevas or flip-flops on the grounds. Wear sensible clothing that you won’t mind getting a little dusty. Tennis shoes are acceptable for trail and pony rides. We don’t recommend hiking boots because they tend to get caught in the stirrups. Sunscreen and mosquito repellent are recommended and can be purchased in our souvenir shop.

Helmets are mandatory for all riders. Helmets are provided free of charge. Riders may bring their own certified riding helmet if they wish.

Bits and Pieces Souvenirs

Our souvenir shop is open seven days a week and carries Breyer model horse toys, t-shirts, hats, sweat shirts, sunscreen, insect repellent, water bottles and an assortment of basic horse accessories.

Horseback Riding With Your Own Horse at Tahoe Donner

Equestrians who wish to bring their own horses and ride the Tahoe Donner Trail System – and are not boarding at the Equestrian Center – must call in advance at (530) 587-9471. There is a trail fee of $15 per horse to be paid in the main office. Riders may pull back into the Equestrian Center, follow the signs for public riders and unload their horses, then you must park in the trailer parking at the south end of the Alder Creek Adventure Center or park on the street.
