Registration for 2020 is now open for members and guests

Riders ages 8-14 are invited to saddle up for a week of half-day riding camps at Tahoe Donner Equestrian Center. Each student will have her or her own horse for the week, and will learn the fundamentals of horsemanship, safety and riding skills. Grooming, tacking, arena work, trail riding, bathing and a horse show on Friday are all part of the curriculum. If we experience summer thunderstorms and are unable to ride, students will have lessons in horse and tack care, shoeing horses, veterinary care and other horsemanship knowledge.

Classes are capped at four students with one instructor.

Wait List Available for Sold Out Camps

Horsemanship Camp is one of our most popular summer programs, and spots fill up quickly. If the session you want is unavailable, join the wait list by emailing Please provide the camper’s name, the desired session and contact information.

Level 1

This camp is for beginners with little or no riding experience. Students will learn the basics of handling, grooming, tacking up and riding at the walk and trot. Students may repeat Level 1 (or take additional private lessons) until they are ready for Level 2. Morning and afternoon sessions are offered each week. Morning session 9AM-12PM or afternoon session 1-4PM.

Level 2

This camp is a continuation of Level 1 and is intended for beginner riders with some experience and confidence under their belts. To qualify for this level, students should be able to fully control their horse at the walk and be comfortable at the trot. When students are fully in control at the trot they will begin learning how to lope/canter. This camp is the most popular and covers the widest range of riding abilities. Students generally take Level 2 multiple times; in each session their instruction will be suited to their ability and confidence levels. Morning session 9AM-12PM or afternoon session 1-4PM.
