Alder Creek Adventure Center North Lot Drainage Improvement Project

WHAT IS THE PROJECT?

The existing north parking lot adjacent to ACAC, including the ADA parking stalls, is north-facing and remains shaded for much of the winter season. In addition, the area does not drain properly, causing standing water to freeze during the winter months. This creates recurring ice accumulation within parking spaces and drainage facilities, resulting in path-of-travel challenges, increased maintenance requirements, and potential hazards for pedestrians.

The project proposes to regrade portions of the parking lot, improve and relocate drainage facilities, install snowmelt areas, and enhance facility access from the north parking lot.

The project will:

  • Improve access by providing a more direct connection from the North Lot to the patio and snow beach areas.
  • Improve operational access to the dumpster enclosure for waste collection.
  • Enhance pedestrian safety and winter accessibility by reducing snow and ice accumulation through improved drainage and snowmelt infrastructure.

WHAT ARE THE IMPACTS?

Temporary parking impacts are anticipated during construction. These impacts will be minimized by phasing construction activities, sectioning only the areas actively under construction, and utilizing available guest parking within the front parking lot and the “dog leg” portion of the main parking area.

  • The north parking lot will be closed for parking during construction, currently anticipated to start the week of July 6 and continue through mid-August.
  • Bicycles and pedestrians will have access to the Alder Creek Trailhead. Please comply with signage, follow alternate routes as indicated, and stay out of closed construction areas.
  • Equestrian boarders should check with management before entering or exiting through the construction site.
  • The main front entrance to the facility is unchanged, as is the south side access.
  • Staff does not anticipate a material reduction in overall access to the facility during the construction period.

WHAT IS THE PROJECT STATUS?

  • Project plans are complete
  • The board approved construction in the June 26, 2026, board meeting
  • Permit issuance by the Town of Truckee is pending
  • Contracts will be executed pending permit issuance
  • Construction is expected to commence the week of July 6, pending permit issuance

WHAT IS THE TOTAL COST OR BUDGET?
