2016/17 Events

Dec. 3 – 16, 2016, “Bring a Friend” Days

We are encouraging season passholders to bring your friends out to ski with you by offering $19 trail passes and $10 rentals for your guests. Unlimited guests allowed. Passholder must be present.

Dec. 25, 2016, Christmas Day

Tahoe Donner Cross Country Ski Area and trails will be open from 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. on Christmas Day. Trails will be open and ski patrol will be on duty for season passholders only from 8:30 a.m.

Dec. 28, 2016, Equipment Demo Day, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Here’s your first opportunity this season to try what’s new in the way of skis, boots, and poles this year. Industry reps will be on site with demo gear for you to try and will be happy to share their knowledge about what equipment is right for you. Free event; trail pass required.

Dec. 30, 2016, Seminar – “Caring for your Cross Country Skis,” 4 – 5:30 p.m.

Far West Nordic wax guru, Roger Chaney, will be sharing his knowledge about waxing your skis for maximum efficiency and performance. Free Clinic.

Dec. 31, 2016, New Year’s Eve Sunset Snowshoe Tour, 4 – 6 p.m.

Join us for a guided snowshoe hike on the cross country trails followed by a steaming bowl of delicious chili and drinks at the Trailside Bar. A great way to bring in the new year with the family. Meet at Alder Creek Adventure Center at 4 p.m. (3:30 p.m. if you need to rent equipment). Dress in warm layers, including hats and gloves, and bring water and a headlamp.

Cost: $25 for adults; $15 for kids under 18 (must be accompanied by an adult). Includes evening trail pass, guided tour, and a bowl of delicious chili.
Snowshoe Rental: Add $10 if you need to rent snowshoes.

January is National Learn to Ski Month

To celebrate “National Learn to Ski Month,” Tahoe Donner Cross Country will be offering discounted private lessons and private lesson packages any midweek, non-holiday day from January 9 – 31.

Jan. 7, 2017, Moonlight Snowshoe Tour, 4 – 6 p.m.

Join us for a guided moonlight snowshoe hike followed by a steaming bowl of delicious chili and drinks at the Trailside Bar. Meet at Alder Creek Adventure Center at 3:45 p.m. if you need to rent equipment, or 4 p.m. if you have your own gear. Dress in warm layers, including hats and gloves, and bring water and a headlamp.

Cost: $25 for adults; $15 for kids under 18 (must be accompanied by an adult). Includes evening trail pass, guided tour, and a bowl of delicious chili.

Jan. 15, 2017, Wax Tech Help for Skogsloppet, 4:30 – 6 p.m.

Looking for for maximum efficiency and performance for race day? Join Tahoe Donner Cross Country and Far West Nordic wax gurus and other Nordic enthusiasts to wax and structure your skis. Bring your own wax, or buy from us to get your skis in the best shape for racing in the Skogsloppet race on Monday. Free clinic; race registration is not required.

Jan. 16, 2017, Skogsloppet, 10 a.m.

Your chance to try your hand at a ski race and support a great cause. This fun 15k course around the Euer Valley is put on by Truckee’s Middle and High School Nordic ski teams as a fundraiser. There will also be a 2k race for kids. Racing starts at 10 a.m.

Feb. 11, 2017, Full Moon Snowshoe Tour, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

Enjoy the beauty of the full moon on this guided snowshoe hike above Donner Lake. Meet at Alder Creek Adventure Center at 6:15 p.m. to caravan up to the trailhead (5:45 p.m. if you need to borrow equipment). Dress in warm layers, including hats and gloves, and bring water and a headlamp.

Cost: $25 for adults; $15 for kids under 18 (must be accompanied by an adult). Includes guide and snowshoe rental if needed.

Feb. 12, 2017, TD Challenge Tour/Race, 10 a.m.

A new twist on the traditional racing scene. This was so popular last season, we brought it back this year. The Tahoe Donner Challenge is a race or tour and you choose your own route on the trails of the cross country center. A fun format that makes for some great strategizing and comparing routes post event. Checkpoints at Drifter Hut, Hawks Peak and in the Euer Valley. You decide the fastest route.

Feb. 14, 2017, Valentine’s Day Sunset Snowshoe Tour, 4:30 – 6 p.m.

Bundle up with a companion for a special Valentine’s Day evening to watch the sunset above Donner Lake. Meet at Alder Creek Adventure Center at 4:15 p.m. to caravan up to the trailhead (4 p.m. if you need to borrow equipment). Dress in warm layers, including hats and gloves, and bring water and a headlamp.

Cost: $25 Includes guide and snowshoe rental if needed.

March 26, 2017, Tour D’Euer, 10 a.m.

Celebrate spring with this 25-plus-year tradition of touring the Euer Valley. The more trails you ski, the more raffle tickets you can collect to enter to win some great prizes. After the event, join us on the Alder Creek Adventure Center patio overlooking the meadow for a classic spring BBQ and music. Trail pass or season pass required.
