Proper Attire

All visitors should wear long pants and close-toed shoes. We do not permit sandals, Tevas or flip-flops on the grounds. Wear sensible clothing that you don’t mind getting a little dusty. Tennis shoes are acceptable for trail and pony rides. We don’t recommend hiking boots because they tend to get caught in the stirrups. Sunscreen and mosquito repellent are recommended and can be purchased in our souvenir shop.

Helmets

Helmets are mandatory for all riders and are provided free of charge. Riders may bring their own certified riding helmet if they choose.

Horseback Riding With Your Own Horse at Tahoe Donner

Equestrians who wish to bring their own horses and ride the Tahoe Donner Trail System – and are not boarding at the Equestrian Center – must call in advance at (530) 587-9471. Riders may pull back into the Equestrian Center, follow the signs for public riders and unload their horses. Trailer parking is located at the south end of Alder Creek Adventure Center, or you may park on the street.
