Proper Attire

Wear long pants and close-toed shoes, never sandals or flip-flops. Tennis shoes are acceptable, but we advise against hiking boots because they get caught in stirrups. Wear sensible clothing that can get dusty. Sunscreen and bug repellent are recommended.

Helmets

Helmets are strongly recommended for all riders and mandatory for riders under age 18. Bring your own certified riding helmet or borrow one for free.

Horseback Riding With Your Own Horse at Tahoe Donner

Equestrians who wish to bring their own horses and ride the Tahoe Donner Trail System – and are not boarding at the Equestrian Center – must call in advance at (530) 587-9471. Riders may pull back into the Equestrian Center, follow the signs for public riders and unload their horses. Trailer parking is located at the south end of Alder Creek Adventure Center, or you may park on the street.
