Snowshoers are welcome to use any of the 100+ km of ski trails at Tahoe Donner, with a trail pass. We do ask that snowshoers keep to the edges of the trails for safety so as not to damage the striding tracks or skating lanes.
7.5 km of trail have been specially designed for snowshoers to access some of the most scenic spots of the trail system while avoiding skier traffic. Tim’s Trek takes off north from the front of the lodge and weaves through the trees to the Moondance Hut (1 km). Walkabout takes off to the south of the lodge following the meadow then climbs up to the Sundance Hut. There are some great snowshoe climbs from The Moondance Hut past Sundance Hut and all the way to Hawks Peak (2.5 km). Solitude is the best snowshoe access in and out of The Euer Valley (1.5km from the Moondance Hut to the Cookhouse).
A trail pass is required to use the trails in the winter. Walking without snowshoes is not allowed as foot traffic damages the snow surface for our skiers.
We have an extensive rental fleet of snowshoes and poles for rent. We recommend you bring and wear your own hiking/snow boots for maximum comfort, or you can use our ski boots if you wish.
Snowshoeing is easy to learn and is a great activity for the whole family to experience together. We do offer lessons/tours throughout the season for ages 13 and up to learn the basic skills and learn about the local flora and fauna from one of our knowledgeable guides.
